Clear Half-Bark Log Resin Sculpture - 45cm by Giant Sculptures, cream timber and black bark log encased in clear resin, shown against a plain white background.
Clear Half-Bark Log Resin Sculpture - 45cm $3,44200
Description

This block presents two completely different faces at once: a pale cream timber face on one side, and on the side next to it a wide, glossy, almost black bark face. The two meet at a corner of the block, so from any position in front of it you see one of each, and the end grain shows at the top as a broad disc ringed in darker wood.

A Cream Face and a Black Bark Face at a Corner

The log is turned so the split between bark and timber falls on a corner rather than in the middle of a face, and that one decision is what the piece is about. Stand square to either side and you get a single material; stand at the corner and you get both, with the pale cream and the near-black meeting on the arris and nothing in between them. The bark on this piece is unusually glossy and smooth for bark, closer to a hide than to the fibrous kind, so the contrast is in colour rather than in texture. The cream timber is faint-grained with a small knot or two. A high-clarity resin lets the pale cream face read at its own colour.

At 45cm, on a slim footprint, it stands as a markedly vertical block in a room, and the top holds a lamp or a narrow tray. It rewards being placed out in a room rather than against a wall, because pushed into a corner it loses one of its two faces. In an open position it reads differently from each direction, which is unusual in a block. The cream face lifts a dark corner and the bark face grounds a pale one. Indoor use only.

Which Face to Turn to the Room

Set aside 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. Because the two faces are so different, orientation is the decision that matters most on this block and it is made when the piece is placed, not when it is ordered. Cream to the room reads light and quiet, with the bark as a shadow glimpsed at the corner. Bark to the room reads as a dark monolith, with the cream as a bright edge. Corner to the room gives both at once and is what the piece was designed for. It is worth trying all three before deciding, and it is the reason this block should not be built into an alcove. The bark-to-timber proportion can be specified at order, from a narrow bark strip to a bark-dominated block, and other block heights are made on the same square plan. A base this narrow under a block this tall makes it unsteady until it is down, so it is set on the floor first and lifted onto furniture second. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Half bark and half bare wood, meeting at one corner, this block sits naturally in our organic sculptures; its glass-clear body suits our resin sculptures, and its upright stance our abstract sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
