It is clear resin cast as a section of tree trunk. The top face carries concentric growth rings turning round a centre, and the sides are left rough and barked the whole way round, so the piece reads as a length of log with the bark still on and one end sawn flat. Within the clear body, fine white crackle runs down the flanks like frost caught in the grain.
The growth rings are modelled into the mould face and turn round a true centre, so they read as a cut through a trunk rather than as a pattern laid on a disc. The barked side is worked by hand and its run differs from one piece to the next. The cut face is brought to a full polish while the sides are left rough, and holding that contrast without the polish creeping over the arris is the careful part of the finishing. That edge is left true rather than rounded, because it is the whole of what separates the sawn face from the bark.
At 55cm this is a stool at seat height and takes an adult, and the polished cut face will take a tray or a glass without either sliding. A hall, a bathroom or the far end of a seating run all suit it, and it needs a floor with tone enough to hold it rather than a pale carpet. It is the same across as it is high, so it reads as a block from wherever it is come at.
Set aside 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. Most of it is the growth ring face. Three of its features are open. The bark can be worked coarser or eased back, the ring spacing is drawn to order, and a tint can be put through the resin. Top diameter and block height are cut to your figures. Any group ordered in one go is matched on the turn of the growth rings. The growth ring face and the barked edge must sit clear of the crate on all sides; two people will carry it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Growth rings turning across a polished cut face set this log stool among our contemporary and modern sculptures; the stool's sawn top also suits our art furniture and our indoor sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
