Clear Gold-Leaf Plumed Beast on a Base - 20cm, a resin dragon-like sculpture seated upright with curled tail plume, on a clear base against a plain light background.
Clear Gold-Leaf Plumed Beast on a Base - 20cm $1,55200
Description

Up on its haunches like a dog with the chest forward and the forelegs straight, the beast in this resin sculpture lays two pointed ears back along the skull. Behind it the tail rises vertically and breaks into a plume of separate curls that reaches almost as high as the head. The leaf lies at different depths in the animal and in its base, so the flecks underneath read as a bed of light and the ones in the body as a scatter.

A Tail That Stands Up Behind It

A tail that stands vertically is carrying its own weight the whole way up with nothing behind it, and it is made of separate curls rather than one mass, so each curl is undercut and each has to be thin enough to read as a plume and thick enough not to be the piece's weak point. They are cut from the tip down, which is the only order that leaves the root accessible. The ears are the other slow passage: laid back along the skull, they are read against the head behind them rather than against the air, so their edges are undercut deeply enough to hold a line of shadow of their own.

At twenty centimetres including the base this belongs where it can be seen closely: a desk, a shelf at eye level, a hall chest, a cabinet top. It sits well beside books, where the vertical tail answers the spines. Light it from the side or the front, so the leaf catches and the curls keep their shadows; a light from directly above closes the plume into one shape. It faces forward and the composition is symmetrical, so square to the room suits it better than an angle.

The Set of Four, the Colour and What Arrives

Making a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks, and making a bespoke one 5–6. Three more beasts complete the set, each a different animal, and they are made so the group can be collected one at a time. Gold leaf in a clear body is how it comes; an amber, a green or a resin with nothing in it are all made, and the leaf can be silver or copper. The tail can be cut closer to the body where a narrower outline is wanted. Sizes go up from this one to a floor-standing beast. It arrives boxed with the base attached and the tail supported; take it under the base. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A beast sitting up with its ears laid back belongs with our classic sculptures; a plumed tail standing upright leads to our figurative sculptures, and a beast to sit beside books joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
