Clear Gold-Leaf Maned Beast on a Base - 20cm, a crouched lion-like resin sculpture with gold-leaf flecks and gold eyes, tail curled over its back, on a clear rectangular base against a white background.
Clear Gold-Leaf Maned Beast on a Base - 20cm $1,61900
Description

A beast with a lion's body, crouched low with the chest forward and the head raised and turned slightly out, its eyes picked out in gold. The mane runs as a row of separate spikes from between the ears down the neck, the brows are heavy, and the tail rises behind and curls forward over the animal's own back rather than hanging. Gold leaf is suspended through the body and through the clear rectangular base it stands on, at different depths in each.

A Tail That Curls Over Its Own Back

The tail is the difficulty. It leaves the haunch, rises, and comes forward over the back with nothing supporting it for most of its length, so the section at the root is set by what the curl has to carry and then tapered away along the curve; get that wrong and either the tail droops or the root reads as a lump. It is cut with the animal on its side and checked standing. The mane is the slow passage rather than the hard one: each spike is separate, undercut at the base, and lit from behind by the gold in the body, so a spike left slightly thick reads as a shadow against the neck instead of a point.

At twenty centimetres including the base this is a desk, shelf and cabinet piece, and it is meant to be met at close range where the leaf and the mane can be seen. It belongs beside books, on a hall chest, or on a low table where you look down on the curl of the tail. Light it from the side rather than overhead: a raking light finds the spikes and puts the gold in the body, where a ceiling light flattens the mane into one mass. It faces one way, so turn it a quarter off square to the room.

Sets, Colour and What Arrives

From order, a standard piece runs to 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission to 5–6. This beast is one of a set of four, each a different animal, and the others are made to match so the group can be built up over time. The body comes clear with gold leaf as here, in an amber, in a green or as a plain colourless resin, and the leaf can be silver or copper instead. It is made up to a floor-standing guardian where a bigger animal is wanted. It arrives boxed with the base attached and the tail supported, nothing to assemble; take it under the base rather than by the animal. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A crouching beast with a curled tail belongs with our classic sculptures; a spiked mane over a lion's body leads to our figurative sculptures, and a beast small enough for a bookshelf joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
