A bird caught in flight, its wings raised high. Both wings are raised and swept back, the body is drawn out to a long pointed beak, and the tail is a single tapered blade. Nothing is cut into the surface at all: there are no feathers, no eye and no feet, so the whole animal is read as one smooth volume. The only pattern anywhere on it is the gold leaf, hanging in the clear resin at every depth. A slim rod beneath the body comes with the bird as part of it, but no base is supplied.
With no detail anywhere, the form has to carry the piece by itself, and that puts every hour into the surface. A smooth wing that swells and thins across its span turns any flat spot into a highlight that should not be there, so each wing is worked as one continuous curve and then checked by turning it under a hard light rather than by eye. The leaf is the other consideration: in a body this thin there is nowhere to hide a flake, so the leaf is kept to the thicker sections down the spine and the wing roots, and the outer wings are left clear, which is why the bird brightens toward its tips.
This is made to be seen from below or level, not looked down on, so it is best placed high, above eye level. It wants clear space to either side and nothing above it. Light behind or beside it lights the leaf and leaves the clear body almost invisible, which is the effect the piece is for; a front light makes it look like glass. Against a dark wall the flakes hang in the air.
Most pieces are standard and take 3–4 weeks; a bespoke commission takes 5–6. The leaf comes in gold as here, in silver or in copper, or the bird is made in plain clear resin, an amber, a smoke or a green. Wing position is settled at order, anywhere from this full sweep to a level glide. The wings can be made to other spans on order. It arrives boxed with each wing supported along its length and the beak cased; lift it by the body and never by a wing or the beak. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A bird in flight with gold leaf hanging inside belongs with our bird sculptures; wings raised without a feather cut in them lead to our animal sculptures, and a smooth form read as one volume joins our organic sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
