Clear Gold-Flecked Guardian Lion on a Bird Relief Column - 92cm
Clear Gold-Flecked Guardian Lion on a Bird Relief Column - 92cm $2,76700
Description

Gold runs thick through this column: flakes of leaf crowd the whole square shaft, and a guardian lion sits directly on its top, its head gilded and its body shot through with gold. Up the front a gilded bird perches on a single curved branch over a low mound, with a spray of twigs below it. Column and lion are sold together as one piece, the column included in the price.

A Column Crowded With Gold Leaf

Here the leaf is packed densely, so the shaft glitters from every side and the gilded relief has to hold its own against it. The bird and its branch are therefore cut deeper than on a sparsely flecked shaft, and their edges are kept sharp so a line of shadow separates gold relief from gold flake. The lion has no cap beneath it: it sits straight on the top of the shaft, which makes the column read as one block rising into the animal. Its head is gilded and its body carries the same leaf as the column, tying the two together.

At 92cm it stands on the floor next to an armchair or a sofa's end, where the lion meets a seated visitor's eye. The dense gold reads best against a dark wall, and a lamp nearby makes the flakes flash as people pass. A pair either side of a fireplace or a doorway works well, and a single one can close the end of a corridor.

Gold Density, the Lion and Delivery

The standard build is 3–4 weeks and the bespoke build 5–6. How much leaf goes into the shaft is chosen at order, from this dense fill to a light scatter, and silver or copper can replace the gold. The relief can carry another subject or be left off, and the lion can be clear, partly gilded as here, or gold all over. It ships in a single fitted crate with the lion wrapped apart, and it is light enough for one person, who should lift it by the shaft rather than the lion. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A guardian lion seated straight on a gilded column belongs with our lion statues; a bird perched on one curved branch leads to our classic sculptures, and a shaft crowded with gold flakes joins our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
