Clear Gold-Flecked Column with Bird Relief - 94/117/148cm $3,57700
Description

The column is square in plan and clear resin with gold suspended through it in flakes. Gilded relief climbs each shaft: a bird perched on a slender branch, with sprays of bare twigs nearer the foot. A small guardian lion sits at the top on a squared cap, its head gilded and its body clear, and each height quoted takes in the lion as well as the shaft. Three heights are made, each a size option at its own price.

A Column Whose Proportion Is Set by Its Finial

Because the animal is counted in the height, the shaft's proportion is decided by the finial and not the other way round. A lion of this size wants a certain thickness of column under it to look seated rather than perched, and once that thickness is fixed the height follows from it: too slender and the piece reads as a post with an ornament on it, too heavy and the animal disappears. That ratio is set with both parts finished and stood up. The relief is the other work. These branches carry the birds, so each bough is cut to a steady thickness along its length, or a bird is left perched on a step in its own branch. The four edges of the shaft are cut and cleaned before either face beside them is finished.

Each height stands on the floor; on the tallest the relief falls between knee and shoulder, where it can be read, and the lion sits just above eye level. A hallway, a recess or a stair foot suits it. A pair can frame an opening, and every price here is for a single column. Light raking across the shaft from one side is what lifts the gilded birds off the flecked ground; a ceiling light finds the lion and leaves the relief flat. It needs a level floor.

Relief, the Finial and Standing It Up

Production takes approximately 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. What is in relief is open: these birds on branches, deer, blossom, bamboo, or a plain flecked shaft with nothing on it. The gilding comes in gold, silver or copper, and the flecks can be left out. The finial is made as this lion, a plain cap, a sphere or a lotus, and its scale against the shaft is settled at order. Its three heights appear as size options, and a height between them can be cut as a commission. It ships upright in a fitted crate with the finial packed apart from the shaft; two people stand it up and seat the animal by hand. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A guardian lion seated over gilded birds belongs with our lion statues; birds perched on slender branches lead to our animal sculptures, and flakes of gold sealed into the column join our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
