A colourless scholar's rock pierced through in the Taihu manner, with small flakes of gold leaf caught along its upper loops and down the narrow stem. Every opening differs in size and outline, and the clear body lets each one be seen through the next. Narrow in depth, it rises from the black marble it is sold with.
Clear resin turns a pierced rock into a set of frames, since every hole can be seen through every other, and the gold is placed sparingly so that the frames stay clear. The flakes are torn rather than cut and they sit at different depths in the body, so as the piece is turned they catch the light one at a time instead of all at once. Each opening is hand-finished and polished through, which leaves the inner walls as bright as the outer faces.
Its 47cm suits a writing desk, or a console with a lamp close by, since gold leaf wakes under warm light and goes flat under a cold one. A dark wall behind makes the flakes glint; a white one lets the eye pass through the clear rock and the outline softens. Give it surface enough that nothing touches the base.
Allow 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. The leaf can be gathered into one part of the rock or spread more thickly all through it, and copper or silver can replace the gold. The clear body can also be tinted, warmer or cooler. The marble base can be cut from a paler stone. It is packed in shaped foam with the base in its own compartment, and the rock is held round its body when it comes out, never through one of its openings. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A clear Taihu rock flecked with gold sits well among our abstract sculptures; openings seen through one another join it to our organic sculptures, and torn leaf suspended at many depths suits our resin sculptures.

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
