Clear Gilt-Fitted Violin Resin Sculpture - 58cm
Clear Gilt-Fitted Violin Resin Sculpture - 58cm $3,10500
Description

A violin drawn at full size with its fittings in gilt metal, gold leaf suspended inside the plate, and the bow lying across the strings. Colourless in the plate with gold drifting through it, and the fittings gilt against both. The violin rests on its own edge and nothing is supplied beneath it.

An Instrument With Nothing Inside It

A violin in a clear body is a violin that could never be played, and the piece is better for saying so: there is no sound hole through to anything, and the gold inside the plate is where the air would be. Colour in a clear body is exactly what a violin has never had, and putting the gold inside the plate rather than on it is what makes this a sculpture and not a replica. Polished over the whole body, with the gilt fittings left bright against it.

It wants a writing desk or a low cabinet, close enough for the fittings to be made out. A dark ground behind it, so the gold leaf inside the body reads against something. One source from the front picks up the fittings; light from behind puts the leaf inside the plate into the air. The shape is known from across a room and everything worth looking at is a near fact.

Leaving the Gold Out, and a Bow Packed Apart

The standard build is 3–4 weeks and the bespoke build 5–6. Ask us to leave the gold out, to finish the fittings in another metal, or to make the piece at another size. Leave the gold out and the body becomes a shape rather than a depth, which is a quieter object made from the same drawing. One crate with the bow packed separately, and the two go together by hand. Hands under the body, one person, and never a grip on the neck. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Gilt fittings on a clear violin lead to our metal sculptures; the gold drifting inside the plate joins our resin sculptures, and a study close enough to read the fittings holds it among our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
