Clear Free-Form Top & Brass Column Side Table - 48cm
Clear Free-Form Top & Brass Column Side Table - 48cm $2,56300
Description

This is a side table of clear resin and brass. The top is a free-form disc of clear cast resin, its outline lobed and irregular and its rim worked in fine concentric ripples that run a short way inward before the surface levels off. The centre of the top is mottled with soft grey and olive drifts. Below it stands a plain rectangular column of brushed brass, set off-centre so the top overhangs it far more on one side than the other. A small brass disc sits loose on the top.

An Off-Centre Column Under a Free-Form Top

The table gets its balance from a deliberate imbalance. The column is a plain brass box with four flat faces, no taper and no foot, and it is placed to one side of the top's centre, so from the front the top reaches well out past it on the other side. That reads as precarious and is not: the top is thick and the column broad enough in plan to hold it. The two materials then behave in opposite ways. The brass is opaque, brushed in one direction, and graded from a dark bronze at its head to a pale greenish gold at the floor. The resin above is clear at the rim, where the concentric ripples catch a bright line all the way round the lobed outline, and clouded in the middle, where grey and olive drifts sit within the thickness. The brass disc on the surface is a separate piece and repeats the column's finish at a small scale.

At 48cm this is a tall side table, level with a sofa arm, and the overhang means it can be pushed close to a chair with the column standing clear of a foot. The top is level across its middle and takes a glass, a cup or a small book; the rippled rim is not a level surface. It reads best from the side that carries the overhang, so it wants to be placed with its long reach into the room rather than against a wall. A dark floor makes the brass column the whole object; a pale one lets the clear top separate from it. Indoors only.

The Outline of the Top, and Where the Column Stands Under It

Time separates the two: a bespoke commission takes 5–6 weeks, a standard piece 3–4. The outline of the top is drawn for each table, from this lobed free form through to a plain oval or a rounded rectangle. Where the column stands under it is the second decision and the one that changes the piece most: off-centre as here gives the overhang, and centred gives a symmetrical pedestal table that reads quite differently. Then the brass, which can be this brushed and graded finish, a plain satin, a polished mirror, or a blackened steel instead. The loose disc can be supplied or left off. Top outline and column height are each specified. Top and column come in one crate and go together on site. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A rippled free-form top above a brass column joins our art furniture; the lobed outline relates it to our organic sculptures, and the brushed brass to our metal sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
