Clear Finely Ribbed Shell Cast Resin Armchair, 85cm, front view showing fine vertical ribbing and flared legs, shown against a plain white background.
Clear Finely Ribbed Shell Cast Resin Armchair - 85cm $4,58800
Description

In this clear resin armchair a broad, rounded shell back curves forward to become both arms, and every surface, inside and out, is cut into very fine close vertical ribs. It stands on four legs that flare out at the foot. One material and one colour throughout, so the form is read entirely through the ribbing.

Fine Ribs Running Round One Shell

The ribs are turned into the mould so they hold their pitch as the shell curves away, which is the difficult part: a rib that opens up where the surface flattens shows immediately against its neighbours. The shell is formed in one piece and no joint shows between the back, the arms and the seat. The polish is taken right through the inside of the shell and into every trough between the ribs, which is what makes a clear chair read as one body rather than as a ribbed sheet.

At 85cm to the top of the shell this is a lounge or an occasional chair rather than a dining one, and it suits a living room, a study or a wide landing. The ribs catch light along their length, so a lamp to one side does far more for it than a downlight overhead, which flattens them into one tone.

The Ribs, the Tint, and Ordering a Set

Allow 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. Most of it is the ribbed shell. Three of its features are open. The rib pitch is drawn to order, a colour can be taken through the material, and the shell is drawn higher at the back where more support is wanted. Tell us the seat width and the shell height. Nothing holds the pitch of the ribs round the shell between separate orders. The ribbed shell rim and the four feet go in padded, and two people place it with a hand under the seat and both arms supported. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Fine ribs running round one clear shell give our art furniture a lounge chair; the ribbed shell sits with our organic sculptures, its unbroken clear body our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
