Clear Fine Ripple Resin Bench on Steel Blades - 200cm
Clear Fine Ripple Resin Bench on Steel Blades - 200cm $9,91700
Description

A long run of clear cast resin on a shallow depth, which is what gives this bench its particular character: it is long and lean rather than broad. Both long faces are worked into a fine even ripple, close enough to read as a texture rather than a set of grooves, and the top is left flat. Two brushed stainless blades carry it, positioned short of both ends.

One Fine Rhythm Held the Whole Length

The difficulty here is arithmetic before it is craft. A fine ripple has many more repeats along the same length than a coarse one, and over a run this long the count runs into the hundreds, so the slightest pitch error accumulates into a visible drift by the far end. The rhythm is therefore set out from the middle and worked outward in both directions, which puts any residual error at the two ends where it falls off the edge instead of in the centre where the eye would find it. On a depth this shallow the ripple also has to be shallow enough not to eat into the usable width. Each face is polished after working so the ripple reads as clear glassy relief. No two benches ripple identically.

Give a bench of this length a wall it can commit to. A long hall, a lobby, the side of a room where a run of seating is more useful than chairs. The lean depth means it takes almost nothing out of a corridor, which is its practical advantage. Light along the length is what animates a fine ripple; light straight down flattens it into a plain slab. Over a hard floor the blades reflect the floor tone and effectively vanish, so the bench appears to float. The overhangs need room to read, so do not box either end in.

Ripple Pitch, Span and the Route In

A standard piece takes 3–4 weeks to make, and a bespoke commission 5–6. Ripple pitch can be coarsened, and a version with the ripple on the top face as well is available where the bench will not be sat on. The run can be shortened or extended, and the depth taken deeper for a fuller seat. A tint can be introduced into the resin. Blades can be polished, coated or supplied in a darker metal, and their spacing is set at order. Delivery is the real consideration: block and blades travel separately, but the block cannot be shortened, so the route in needs clear passage for its full length and no tight turn. Three people are wanted for the block. Each blade is a one-person carry. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

One fine rhythm held the whole length belongs with our stainless steel sculptures; a lean resin block over brushed blades leads to our organic sculptures, and a run of seating along a lobby joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
