Clear Encased Matter Cast Resin Cube Armchair - 85cm with brown organic matter embedded in the side slabs, shown on a plain white background.
Clear Encased Matter Cast Resin Cube Armchair - 85cm $14,64800
Description

This cast resin cube armchair is a cube with a seat cut out of it. Two vertical slabs stand as the sides, a third spans the back, and between them a horizontal slab forms the seat with an open space beneath. Every element is thick clear resin. Held inside the two side slabs, running most of their height and visible from within and without, is dark organic matter - brown and reddish, fibrous, gathered in a broken column through each one. The back slab and the seat are left clear.

A Seat Cut From a Clear Block

The chair is a cube with a seat taken out of it, and the composition is entirely orthogonal - two side slabs, a back slab, a horizontal seat, an open space beneath. Every element is thick, clear and flat, so the piece reads as an assembly of planes even though the material is continuous. The interest is held in two of those planes only. Each side slab carries a broken column of dark organic matter, brown and reddish and fibrous, running most of its height and read from both faces at once. The back slab and the seat are deliberately left empty: with matter in all four the piece would be busy, and with it in two the eye understands that the clear material is doing the holding.

This is a wide low armchair and it reads as a solid cube from any distance. Light behind it is what shows the encased matter in the two side slabs, so a window or a lamp behind the chair is worth far more than anything in front. The open space beneath the seat keeps it from looking like a block of masonry. Four people are needed to bring it in. Inside only.

What Is Held Inside, and Getting It In

Production takes approximately 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. The encased matter is what fills the time. Three aspects can be specified. The block is offered tinted, the encased matter can run through all four planes rather than two, and the seat can be cut deeper into the mass. What goes inside is ours to select, since no two pieces of matter are alike. Overall width and seat height are quoted to your own figures. Put the whole order in at once and the arrangement of matter in the two slabs carries across every piece. The packing protects the four corners of the two side slabs; moving it wants four people. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A seat cut from a clear block makes this cube armchair seating for our art furniture; the orthogonal planes suit our contemporary and modern sculptures, and a room lit from behind among our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
