Clear Draped Woman Bust on a Turned Socle Resin Sculpture, 68cm, with hair knotted at the back and drapery off one shoulder, shown on a plain white background.
Clear Draped Woman Bust on a Turned Socle Resin Sculpture - 68cm $3,37500
Description

The bust is cut at the chest and set on a turned socle that is not a separate object. The hair is gathered up and knotted at the back of the head, and the drapery falls from one shoulder only, leaving the other bare, which puts the whole weight of the folds on one side of the piece. It is cast in optically clear resin, so the folds read as changes of tone rather than as shadow.

Drapery Falling From One Shoulder Only

A portrait bust is judged at the face and nowhere else, so the face is the last thing finished and it is finished to a grade above the rest of the piece. In clear resin that matters twice over, because every tool mark left on a cheek is magnified by the material behind it rather than caught in a surface. The knotted hair is the undercut problem: a knot standing off the skull cannot be pulled from a rigid mould, so the head comes out of a flexible tool and the knot is cleaned by hand. The socle is turned rather than cast to profile, which is what keeps its mouldings crisp where a cast one goes soft at the edge.

A bust wants to be at or near eye level, which at 68cm means a console, a chest or a plinth rather than a low table. It looks along its own axis, so set it where the face has somewhere to look - down a room, into a hall - rather than into a wall. Clear resin needs something plain behind it to be seen at all, so a quiet wall suits it better than a busy one. It reads best lit from one side.

Colour, Socle Profile and What Arrives in the Crate

As standard the build runs 3–4 weeks, and as a bespoke commission 5–6. It is made to order at any size, and the resin can be coloured coral orange instead of clear. The colour can also be run as a smoke, an amber or a soft green. The socle profile is open - with more mouldings, fewer, or square rather than turned - and the bust can be cut deeper on the chest for a fuller drape. Delivery is a single crate with the head cased separately inside it, and the bust is a two-person lift. Nothing is assembled on site. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A bust whose drapery leaves one side bare belongs with our figurative sculptures; a knot of hair and a turned socle lead to our classic sculptures, and folds read as tone join our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
