Clear Combed Long Pointed Dish Resin Sculpture, 80cm, elongated boat-shaped vessel with fine vertical striations inside, clear exterior, shown on a plain white background.
Clear Combed Long Pointed Dish Resin Sculpture - 80cm $2,23300
Description

A long, colourless vessel drawn out to a point at both ends. The whole of the inner wall is combed in fine vertical striations that stop a little short of the rim, while the outside is left plain and clear. The effect is that the vessel appears to be holding something when it is empty. No base is included, and the vessel sits on the flat run of its own underside.

Combed Inside, Left Plain Outside

Combing the inside of a vessel and leaving the outside plain is a decision about where the light stops. The striations run vertically down the inner wall and stop short of the rim, so light entering the open top is broken up before it reaches the eye while the outside stays clear and returns the room. The effect is that the vessel looks as though it is holding something. Comb both faces and the piece frosts over; comb neither and a colourless vessel this long has nothing in it at all and reads as a sheet of material folded up at the edges.

It needs a table, an island or a console to itself, and it is read from above, so a low surface serves it better than a high one. It is a sculpture rather than a serving vessel and is not made for food or liquid. Light from above runs down the combed wall and separates it from the plain outside; a side light flattens the two together and the piece reads as clear material only.

The Striations, the Clarity, and Delivery

Production takes approximately 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. The striations are combed deeper, a tint is run through the body, and the vessel is cast at other lengths. The vessel is also drawn deeper for a different proportion of wall to opening. A frosted outside is made and removes the contrast the design is built on, since the combing only reads against a clear face. It is crated on its underside with both points boxed apart, because the drawn ends are the first thing a knock finds. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A clear vessel combed inside and drawn out to two points leads on to our art furniture, our organic sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
