This stool is a section of tree stump cut in solid clear material: the whole side is worked into deep vertical channels and standing ridges, the way split bark runs, and the top is an irregular rounded plan left rippled. Nothing is hollowed out and nothing is added, so the channels are read right through the body from any side.
The channels are modelled into the mould round the whole circumference and each is set to its own depth, so the section changes constantly and no two ridges match. That is the difficulty on a solid casting: the material has to reach the root of every channel without trapping air there, and a bubble at the bottom of a channel would sit in it like a flaw in glass. The top comes off the mould rippled and is not brought flat afterwards, so it keeps the surface the material gave it. Each ridge is polished along its length by hand, since a wheel cannot reach between two of them, and the bearing edge is ground to one level.
At 45cm it is at seat height, and the irregular plan means there is no front to it and no edge that lines up with a wall. Every ridge stands proud of the channel beside it, so the side shows as a ring of vertical lines from any angle and closes to a plain column only when it is lit flat on. The rippled top is the only level surface on the piece, so a glass wants the widest part of it.
Production takes approximately 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. The channel undercut is the slow part. Its three open properties are yours. The channels can be run deeper or shallower, and the material can be tinted through its body rather than left clear. Stump width and stool height are both quoted on request. Where two or more are wanted, the run of the channels is held the same across the group. The channel edges and the rippled top are padded before the lid goes on, and it is crated upright so nothing bears on a ridge. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A clear stump channelled like split bark gives our art furniture a stool; the bark ridges suit our organic sculptures, the solid body our resin sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
