Clear Broken Edge Acrylic Bench on Steel Blades, 115cm, with a flat seat and faceted frozen edges on polished steel legs, shown on a plain white background.
Clear Broken Edge Acrylic Bench on Steel Blades - 115cm $6,27700
Description

The top of this bench is flat and the sides are not: both long faces break outward into a coarse frozen edge, irregular and faceted, and only the seat is held dead flat right across. So the bench offers a smooth surface and keeps all its roughness at eye level from the side. It stands on two polished stainless blades set well in from the ends.

A Level Top Between Two Broken Faces

Breaking an edge deliberately is harder than cutting one, because the break has to look like the material's own and not like damage. Worked too regularly it reads as a moulded texture; worked too freely it reads as a chip. The faces are therefore taken back in stages with the depth of each break judged against the ones either side of it, and the line where the break meets the flat top is held straight over the full length, since that line is what tells the eye the top is deliberate. There is not much length for the break to establish a rhythm in, which is its own discipline.

A short bench with a rough edge does a job a long one cannot: it fits under a window, at the end of a bath, inside a porch, or against the short wall of a hall. It sits at seat height and the flat top takes real use. The broken faces read from the side, so a position you pass rather than face suits it. Blades set well in leave both ends cantilevered, which is what makes a short bench look light, so keep them clear of a skirting.

Edge Coarseness, Panel Depth and a Short Two-Part Bench

Order a standard piece and it takes 3–4 weeks; order it bespoke and it takes 5–6. Edge coarseness is open, from a fine break to a heavy one, and the break can be taken round the ends as well. Panel depth is offered heavier. Length is cut to order and the blade spacing follows it. A tint can be introduced. The blades are available brushed, coated or in a darker metal. Panel and blades ship apart, the blades bolting to plates let into the underside, and at this length nothing about the delivery is awkward. The panel wants two people, and each blade is boxed for the journey. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A level seat between two broken faces belongs with our acrylic sculptures; polished blades leaving both ends to overhang lead to our stainless steel sculptures, and a short bench for a porch joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
