Charred Core Clear Cast Resin Block Side Table, 45cm, by Giant Sculptures, showing a dark charred wood core encased in amber-edged clear resin on a plain white background.
Charred Core Clear Cast Resin Block Side Table - 45cm $3,91500
Description

This side table is a block of clear resin around a dark charred core, the core's cut end showing on the top face and the resin turning amber where it thickens towards the edges. The char covers the core's whole outer surface, and the rings of the cut end are visible through the polish.

A Charred Core Held Inside Clear Resin

The core is dried and stabilised before anything is poured, then held in position while the resin is built up around it, so it sits centred in the block with an even thickness of material on every side. The top face is worked flat and polished right across both the resin and the core's cut end, which is the slow part: two surfaces of different hardness have to come up to one plane and one sheen. The four arrises are left true rather than eased, so the block reads as a cut solid. The four faces and the base are taken to the same gloss, because a clear block on a pale floor is read from beneath as much as from above.

At 45cm it is at the height of a chair arm, and the top face is flat right across, so a glass or a lamp stands on it without rocking. The core is the reason to have it, so it wants light from the side to be read through the block rather than a downlight that would only show the top. On a pale floor the resin reads clear and on a dark one it closes to amber.

The Core, the Polished Top, and Delivery

Give it 3–4 weeks as a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks as a bespoke commission. The charred core is the slow part. Ask for three things to be set your way. The core is chosen from what is in stock at order, the block is cast squarer or deeper in plan, and a tint is taken through the resin around it. You name the top width and the overall height. For a matching group, the char on the core is set once and carried through it. The exposed core face and the block arrises go into the crate wrapped, and it is packed so the top face carries nothing. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A charred core held in a clear block gives our art furniture a side table; the burnt timber answers our organic sculptures, the block itself our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
