A ball of translucent, deeply amber resin, carrying raised spirals over the whole of its surface. The spirals vary in size and wind in both directions, and they are lifted clear of the body rather than cut into it. The material darkens where two spirals cross. No cradle or ring comes with it, so it is set down on whatever it is given.
A repeating motif on a sphere cannot actually repeat, and that is the whole design problem here rather than a detail of it. Lay the same spiral out on a flat sheet and wrap it round and the ones near the poles crowd together while the ones at the equator stretch, which is the map-maker's difficulty arriving in a casting. Drawing them individually is the only way out, and it means there is no master unit to repeat: every spiral on this surface was placed against its neighbours and against the curve it sits on. What the eye reads as a pattern is a set of one-off decisions, and it is the reason the piece stands up to being picked up and turned.
It is a piece to be handled, so it belongs where someone can reach it: a desk, a low table, a shelf at hand height. It has no flat face and will roll, so it wants either a shallow dish under it or a surface with a lip. The amber is deep enough to need direct light to open up, and a lamp close beside it does far more than a bright room. Twenty-five centimetres is not large but it is heavy for its size, so a light shelf is the wrong place.
Every standard piece is made in 3–4 weeks, and every bespoke commission in 5–6. The relief is drawn deeper or the spirals spaced further apart, the body is lifted toward honey or run to green, and the sphere is cast at other diameters. A version with the spirals cut INTO the surface rather than raised on it is made and reads completely differently, since incised lines fill with shadow while raised ones catch light. A turned stand is offered separately. It is packed in one box in a shaped bed and one person lifts it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A ball worked over every part of itself is organic sculpture; the amber body is resin sculpture; and relief this shallow is indoor sculpture work.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
