Brown Live-Edge Timber & Clear Resin Bench - 180cm, with grain fading into clear resin on curved brass-finished pedestals, shown on a plain white background.
Brown Live-Edge Timber & Clear Resin Bench - 180cm $21,46700
Description

This bench is one long beam that begins as solid red-brown timber and ends as clear resin. The change happens along a ragged natural edge where the timber's own outline was left uncut, so the grain runs out into the clear section and stops in mid-air. Two curved brass-finished pedestals carry the beam, set well in from each end.

Where the Timber Stops and the Resin Starts

The boundary is the piece. It is not a straight line but the timber's own live edge, so every knot, split and wave in that outline is visible through the resin beside it, and the join reads as an event rather than as a seam. For a short distance into the clear section the grain is still legible through the resin, and then it is gone. The beam is finished as one surface across both materials, so a hand run along the top finds no step at all where they meet. The pedestals are the third material, brass-finished and curved on their front faces, and they are matte where the beam is glossy.

The seat sits at ordinary bench height, with room for two people side by side or for setting things down. The narrow section makes it a piece for a wall, a hall, the foot of a bed or a window, where its length can be read end to end. It should be positioned with the clear end towards the light, since that is what lifts the resin and shows the grain running out. Indoor use only.

Timber Species, the Resin Proportion & Pedestal Finish

Build times separate standard from bespoke: 3–4 weeks against 5–6. Three things are specified and the second is the one that changes the bench most. Beam length is made to order. The proportion of timber to resin is set anywhere from a narrow clear tip, which reads as a timber bench with a detail at one end, to an even division, which reads as two materials in argument; this version sits between the two. Timber species is selected separately, and a paler wood makes the boundary quieter while a dark one makes it the loudest thing in the room. Pedestal finish is offered in brass as here, blackened steel, or polished stainless. The beam and pedestals arrive as three items and are assembled from underneath, with the beam lifted by two people, a hand under each material rather than both under the clear end. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A seat cut from one red-brown beam belongs with our art furniture; the uncut live edge ties it to our organic sculptures, and the glassy clear end to our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
