Giant Sculptures' Brown Bark & Sapwood Log Resin Block, 45cm, embedded in a clear resin cube showing dark ridged bark, pale sapwood, and cut rings, on a plain white background.
Brown Bark & Sapwood Log Resin Block - 45cm $6,18400
Description

A log section runs the whole height inside a clear resin block whose faces are flat and whose arrises are square. The cut end of the log shows beneath the top face with its rings and splits visible, the bark on the flanks is dark and coarsely ridged, and a pale band of stripped sapwood runs down one face.

A Generous Depth of Clear Resin at Every Corner

The log fills most of the block's width, and a strip of clear resin runs down each side of the bark, so the rough bark is set off by the flat clear faces around it. The corners in particular become substantial blocks of clear resin, and on a bright day they carry the light while the log sits dark in the middle of it. Its top comes up to about the height of a chair arm, so the end grain is seen closer to level with the eye of someone seated than looked down into. The band of stripped sapwood runs the full height of one face.

At 45cm, and heavy, it is a block to settle in a room or a hall and leave there. It stands beside a chair, at the foot of a bed, in a hall, at the end of a run of seating, or on a hearth, and it needs nothing beneath it. Because the corners are clear, it rewards being placed where something can be seen through them: a window behind it, or a stretch of open floor. The bark face is the one to turn towards a low light. It is not a piece to be moved often once it is down. Indoor use only.

How Much Bark, the Clear Margin and Moving Solid Resin

Delivery follows a 3–4 week build as standard, or a 5–6 week build if bespoke. The finishing takes more of the work than the making does. On the log: a single stripped band down one face is standard, and it is also made fully barked, which gives a dark object on all four faces, or fully stripped, which gives a pale one where the rings carry everything. On the block: the clear margin can be widened further for a piece that reads more like a specimen in a case, or tightened so the bark meets the arris and breaks the outline. Species comes from what the studio holds and sets the tone of the end grain. Weight is the practical point at this size: it ships in one crate on a purpose-built pallet, needs three people and a clear route, and there is nothing to assemble at the end of it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Its bark-and-sapwood log is matched in our organic sculptures; the clear casting around it connects it with our resin sculptures, while the plain block shape belongs to our abstract sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
