Bright Blue Curling Breaking Wave Resin Sculpture (53cm) by Giant Sculptures, showing a curled crest over pointed jets of standing water, on a plain light background.
Bright Blue Curling Breaking Wave Resin Sculpture - 53cm $2,09200
Description

A wave taken at the moment of breaking, the crest curled over and the water beneath it standing up in a row of separate pointed jets. Bright blue fills the whole wave, the standing water and the curled crest alike, deepest where the jets crowd together. Nothing is supplied under it. The broken water at the base is what the piece stands on.

Water Caught at the Break

Modelled water is unusually unforgiving. Every viewer has watched a wave break, so a form that is nearly right reads as wrong far more loudly than an abstract one ever would. The crest and the jets are the same body, so the eye follows the curl over the top and comes down into the points without ever meeting an edge, which is what makes it read as one movement of water rather than as a sculpture of several. The separate points of the break are cast with the body and not added to it, which is why none of them has a join at the root. Polished everywhere, including between the points where a brush will never reach.

A sideboard or a wide console, placed so the break is seen across rather than end on. A pale wall lets the blue crest read against it; a dark one swallows the colour. Light from behind fills the crest and turns the standing points into silhouettes, which is what this piece is built for. The blue carries right across a room, crest and base together.

Curling It Further, and Delivery

Standard pieces take 3–4 weeks and bespoke commissions 5–6. The crest is curled further over, the blue is deepened, and the points at the base are drawn out longer. Curl the crest further and the base is widened under it, because everything overhanging is carried from there. One crate, with the broken base packed solid underneath and the crest given clear air above it. Two people. The crest is thin and it is the part that wants to be grabbed. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A breaking wave with its crest curled over leads into our organic sculptures; its bright blue water belongs to our resin sculptures, and more small pieces with movement are in our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
