This resin scholar's rock comes with the block of black marble it stands on. Its depth is what marks it out: so shallow from front to back that it is a screen rather than a mass, it has six openings of different sizes cut clean through it. Blue runs through the material in veins and patches over a largely colourless ground, strongest around the upper openings.
Because there is so little material front to back, every opening goes all the way through and the object reads as a lattice held upright. The openings are graded rather than repeated: a broad oval near the top, a group of three tight rounds through the middle where the material narrows, and two further gaps low down where an arm swings away from the stem. Between them the material is never wider than a hand, so what you look at is mostly edge. That edge is where the blue collects: it runs in threads and small clouds through an otherwise colourless body, and it is denser round the upper openings than the ones beneath. The whole surface is polished, so each of those narrow webs carries a bright line along it, and the piece changes completely when it is turned even slightly.
At 46cm on its block it suits a console, a credenza or a run of shelving, and the marble means nothing goes underneath, but it needs something behind it. The shallowness is the thing to plan for: seen face on it is at its best, and seen edge on it nearly disappears, so a position approached from the front rather than the side is worth choosing. It also wants light or space behind it, since the openings are the subject and a wall close behind turns six of them into grey patches. Indoor use only.
Plan for 3–4 weeks on a standard piece and 5–6 weeks on a bespoke commission. Two finishes are made on this form and both are worth knowing about: the blue-veined version here, and a wholly colourless one in which the openings and the polished webs do all the work and the piece reads much harder. The blue can also be run heavier until it dominates. The number of openings is set at order, from four broad ones to a dozen fine ones, and the fewer they are the more the material reads as stone rather than as coral. Depth can be increased where a freestanding position means it will be seen from the side, which changes the character considerably. It ships with the block fitted, boxed with each opening packed out, and one person can handle it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A blue-veined screen of a rock belongs with our abstract sculptures; six openings graded from oval to round join it to our organic sculptures, and blue threaded through a colourless body suits our resin sculptures.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
