Blue Tub Shell & Timber Base Resin Armchair - 78cm
Blue Tub Shell & Timber Base Resin Armchair - 78cm $3,57500
Description

This cast resin armchair sets a tub shell on splayed timber legs finished near black. The shell is a single open tub, deepest blue at the rim and rolled outward at each side into a short point, and two large oval openings are cut through it where the arms meet the back. Behind and below them the seat panel is tinted a soft rose, so the chair carries two colours, and they meet along clean, sharp edges.

Two Ovals, a Rose Seat, and a Timber Base

Three things are worth separating. The shell: one continuous tub, thickest and darkest at the rolled rim, thinning as it descends so the blue drains almost to clear where it meets the seat. The openings: a pair of large ovals, one on each side, positioned where an arm would join a back, so what would be a solid tub becomes a frame and the room shows through at exactly the height a seated person's elbow sits. And the seat, which is not blue at all but a soft rose, pooled in the pan and fading up the back, so the chair reads cool from outside and warm from above. The base is the fourth element and the one most easily misread: it is timber, not painted metal, four legs splayed from a central plate, and its near-black finish makes the shell appear to float clear of the floor.

At 78cm to the rim this is a full occasional armchair, and the tub is deep enough to sit into rather than on. It suits a living room, a bedroom by a window or a wide landing, and it wants to be seen from the front or three-quarter, where the ovals and the two colours read together. A cushion is not needed. Backlit, the rose in the seat lifts and the blue rim goes almost black; lit from the front, the two colours flatten toward each other. The splayed timber feet want a hard floor or a firm rug. Indoors only.

The Two Colours, the Openings, and the Base Below

Ordinarily a standard piece needs 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. The colours are the first decision: the rose in the seat can be deepened, softened or left out altogether, and the blue at the rim can be changed to suit a room. The openings are second, from these two large ovals through to four modest cuts or a solid tub with none, which is a quieter and considerably heavier reading. Third is the base, in timber as here, or in steel for a chair that reads lighter under the shell. Shell size and seat height are quoted separately. Shell and base arrive apart in one crate and bolt together with the fixings supplied. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Blue at the rim and rose in the seat put this armchair with our resin sculptures; its rounded, open outline relates to our organic sculptures, and as seating it is in our art furniture.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
