Blue Shallow Cast Resin Dish - 40cm by Giant Sculptures, a wide shallow bowl with a thin rim, shown on a plain white background.
Blue Shallow Cast Resin Dish - 40cm $2,02500
Description

A shallow dish of blue resin, dished gently at the centre and drawn out to a thin rim. It is cast in a clear blue that is carried right across the span rather than pooling at the middle, and the underside is left plain. No stand comes with it, and it holds what a dish drawn this shallow will hold.

A Shallow Dish Has Nowhere to Hide

Transmitted colour is a function of how much material the light passes through, which is why an evenly tinted casting almost never looks evenly coloured. On a form with real depth that works in your favour, since the variation reads as modelling. On something this shallow and this wide there is nothing to read it as: any thickening toward the middle shows up immediately as a dark patch in the centre of an otherwise flat blue, and it is the first thing anyone notices. So the section here is held almost constant from rim to centre, and the gentle dish is cut into both faces rather than into one. It is a harder casting than it looks and the colour is the whole test of it.

It is a working dish as much as an object, so it suits a low table, a console or an island where it will be reached into rather than only looked at. Forty centimetres is a serious footprint on a coffee table and it wants the space to itself. Set on a pale surface the blue lifts and the dish reads as a pool; on a dark one it closes and reads as a plate. It is not glass and it does not chip at the rim the way glass does.

Depth, Tint, and Delivery

Work on a bespoke commission runs to 5–6 weeks, on a standard piece to 3–4. The blue is taken lighter or deeper, the dish is cut with more fall at the centre, and the rim is drawn heavier. A frosted version is made and is opaque rather than translucent, which changes what the piece is for. It is also cast at other diameters, and a pair at two sizes is often ordered for one surface. It travels flat in one box between shaped boards with the rim protected right around, and one person lifts it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A dish made for daily use belongs with our art furniture; a bowl drawn this shallow sits among our organic sculptures, and clear blue to hold fruit on a worktop joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
