Blue Ribbed Wave Crescent Resin Sculpture - 51cm, a ribbed blue crescent with a smooth wedge-shaped base on a black stand, set against a plain white background.
Blue Ribbed Wave Crescent Resin Sculpture - 51cm $2,36100
Description

A ribbed crescent of blue resin that rises from a broad foot, arches over and comes down the far side to a fine tail, leaving the circle open at one side. The outer face is struck right across in close cuts held at one pitch the whole way round, and the tail draws out fine where the curve finishes. At the foot the band is cut off on a slant, leaving a smooth, clear, wedge-shaped face that looks across the opening toward the tail. Blue runs through the body and a black marble slab is included beneath.

Cuts Struck at an Even Pitch

Striking the outer face of a curve across its run is a way of measuring it. The cuts are made at an even pitch, so any variation in the sweep would show as a change in their spacing, and they hold their interval the whole way round. The smooth face at the foot is the control: it is the one place on the piece left unstruck and polished clear, and setting it where the crescent meets its slab gives the striking something to be measured against. Without that one plain face the ribbing would come off as texture rather than as work following a form.

At 51cm on its slab it belongs on a desk or a console, and the light wants to come from one side rather than from above, since cutting this close only shows under something that rakes it. It is best stood against a plain surface, because a busy background and a busy face cancel one another. The slab gives it a broad, steady footing. The struck cuts catch light along their crests and hold shadow in their troughs, so the crescent presents as a run of bright lines rather than as one continuous surface.

The Cutting, the Smooth Foot, and Delivery

Most pieces are standard and take 3–4 weeks; a bespoke commission takes 5–6. The ribbing is struck deeper across the outer face, the smooth face at the foot is cut at a steeper slant, and the tail is drawn finer. It is run at other heights, and the slant at the foot is cut to suit whatever the curve is set at. Left frosted instead of struck, with no cutting at all, the crescent becomes a far quieter object. Where a plainer foot is wanted the smooth face is struck like the rest, though the curve then has nothing left to be measured against. Crescent and slab come in one box, and it is lifted from beneath the slab, never by the struck curve or the tail. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Struck in close cuts from its slanted foot to its fine tail, this blue crescent stands with our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
