Blue Ribbed Fan Shell Resin Sculpture - 75cm, a clear blue shell form with deep radiating ribs and a jagged lip, resting on its hinge against a plain white background.
Blue Ribbed Fan Shell Resin Sculpture - 75cm $3,84700
Description

A shell cast in a clear blue and drawn as a fan of deep ribs radiating from a tight hinge at the foot. The ribs widen and deepen as they run out, and the lip they reach is broken rather than smooth. It stands on its own hinge, with the fan opening out above it, and arrives with no plinth.

The Ribs Are What Allow the Lip

A fan this wide has to end in a thin edge or it stops reading as a shell, and a thin edge on a casting this wide is a real problem: there is nothing to stop it flexing while the material is green, and a lip that flexes sets wavy. The ribs are the answer and they are structural rather than decorative. Each one is a fold in the section, and a folded sheet is many times stiffer than a flat one of the same thickness, so the ribs let the lip be drawn as thin as it is. It is why they deepen toward the edge rather than fading out, which is the opposite of what a purely drawn version would do.

At 75cm it belongs on a floor or a wide console, and the fan only opens when it is met from the front. Set it on a low plinth or a broad surface with nothing beside it. Light arriving from behind and off to one side runs down the channels between the ribs and makes the whole fan read as depth rather than as a pattern; flat frontal light collapses it. It is hollow between the ribs and lighter than its size suggests.

The Ribs, the Tint, and Delivery

It takes 3–4 weeks to make as standard, and 5–6 weeks to make bespoke. The ribs are drawn coarser or finer, the lip is cut level instead of broken, and the blue is graded from the hinge outward rather than run through. A frosted finish is offered and closes the shell to the light, which answers a room that has a bright window in it. It is also cast at other spans. It goes out in one crate standing as it stands in the room, the lip ringed and bridged so nothing bears on it, and two people lift it by the hinge. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A shell drawn as a fan is organic sculpture; the ribbed body is resin sculpture; and a piece this wide asks for indoor sculpture space.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
