Blue Hewn Resin Bowl with Polished Basin - 90cm, chiseled exterior facets and rippled polished top with an irregular rim, shown on a plain light grey background.
Blue Hewn Resin Bowl with Polished Basin - 90cm $6,27700
Description

This deep blue bowl form is worked to two opposite finishes. The outside is left in deep chisel cuts and broken facets that narrow towards a small foot, while the top is a level, polished surface rippled like water and filled right to the rim. The rim itself is chipped and irregular in outline, as though the edge had been broken rather than cut, and the blue runs right through the material instead of sitting on the surface.

Chiselled Sides Under a Rippled, Polished Top

What gives this blue resin bowl its depth is that the two finishes disagree. The faceted sides catch the light in many small planes, so the eye reads them as rock; the top then behaves as a still pool and returns the room, its ripples spreading out from the middle like rings on water. No two facets are the same size and they run at different angles, so the outside never settles into a pattern. The blue reads deepest down the hewn sides and lightest across the top, where the ripples catch the light, so the whole piece looks like still water held in a basin of blue rock.

Low and broad, it belongs on a wide, low plinth or directly on the floor, where the rippled top can be seen from above and the hewn sides from across the room. The top is filled to the rim, so it is a form to look down on rather than a vessel to fill. It sits best against materials with no shine of their own, so plaster, limestone and unfinished timber, and the saturation is strong enough that it wants to be the only blue in the room. Indoor use only.

Chisel Depth, Top Finish & Tint at Order

Standard pieces take 3–4 weeks and bespoke commissions 5–6. Three things are settled at order on this bowl and none of them can be changed afterwards. The chisel work is specified coarser or finer, which alters the character more than the colour does: coarse facets read as broken stone from across a room, fine ones as a worked surface only at close range. The top is either polished and rippled, as here, or left in the same chiselled finish as the sides, which removes the contrast entirely and makes a single rough mass of it. The tint comes from the studio range, and the depth of blue can be taken lighter for a room that will not carry this saturation. A hollow casting is far lighter than the size implies, yet the broken rim is its weakest line, so the bowl travels upright in a fitted crate and is handled around the body and never lifted by the edge. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Blue rock with a pool of still water for a top, this bowl rests among our organic sculptures; it is also offered with our art furniture, and its saturated casting with our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
