Blue & Purple Combed Mane Horse Resin Sculpture, 69cm, with arched neck and grooved mane, blue-to-purple finish with metallic flecks, on a black base against a plain white background.
Blue & Purple Combed Mane Horse Resin Sculpture - 69cm $3,17200
Description

A horse's head and forequarters, the neck arched and the mane swept back in deep parallel grooves, the body opening into an arch between the front legs. Blue runs the head and the shoulder and goes to purple down the legs, with metallic flecks caught through the body. Below the combed mane the body is left smooth, so the grooves read as the one worked surface on the piece. It stands on a plain black block, which is supplied with it.

One Worked Surface, One Left Alone

A worked surface set directly against an unworked one is a harder thing than either on its own, because the eye reads the rough as a fault the moment the smooth is beside it. The grooves in the mane are cut with a consistent pitch and everything around them is left as it came, so the mane is the only part of the animal that has been decided rather than found. The mane is combed into deep parallel grooves and the rest of the body is left rough, so the casting has to carry a worked surface and an unworked one side by side. The mane is cut and polished and everything else is left coarse, which is what makes the grooves read as hair.

A console, a sideboard or a writing table, turned so the arch under the body is seen side on. A pale ground behind it. The arch between the legs is the whole composition and it needs something to open against. Side light finds every groove in the mane; light straight on flattens the mane into a single plane. The head and the arch carry from across a room, and the flecks in the body are entirely a near fact.

Combing It Deeper, and Delivery

Reckon on 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke one. The mane is combed deeper or left plain, the purple is carried higher, and the arch is opened wider. Comb the mane deeper and the head reads heavier, so the arch below is opened to carry the extra weight in the eye. Crated on its side, it is stood up again only where it is to stay, on a level surface. One person, taken around the body, and the legs are not handholds. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A horse's head and forequarters with a combed mane stand in our indoor sculptures; the cut, combed treatment suits our contemporary and modern sculptures, and the blue and purple casting joins our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
