Blue & Clear Winged Scholar's Rock Resin Sculpture - 57cm $1,88900
Description

This resin scholar's rock is broad for its depth, and black marble is supplied under it. From a blue stem the material sweeps up and out to the right into a broad flat wing that ends in a torn edge, with a second, lesser wing turning back to the left. The colour divides on a diagonal: a deep saturated blue holds the stem and the left, and the wing runs almost colourless.

A Diagonal Split Between Blue and Clear

The colour boundary runs across the piece rather than up it, and that is the whole composition. Below and to the left the blue is dense enough to read as a solid, streaked through with white where it has moved, and it holds the visual weight of the object. Above and to the right the same material gives up its colour entirely, so the wing reads as an outline with a bright edge and almost nothing inside it. Between the two the change happens over a short band and is streaked rather than clean. The wing is thin enough that its torn end is the thickest thing about it, and the whole piece therefore looks quite different edge on, where the wing collapses to a line and only the blue stem is left. The blue is worked wet, so no two divide in the same place.

At 57cm it suits a long console or a boardroom shelf, which give it the width it needs, and it wants nothing standing to its right, since the wing reaches out that way and the space is part of the form. Face on is the view to plan for. A pale wall behind suits this one better than a dark one, because the clear wing needs something to read against while the blue stem carries itself. Light from the left brings the blue up; light from the right passes through the wing and loses it. Indoor use only.

Where the Colour Divides, and Which Way the Wing Turns

Order a standard piece and it takes 3–4 weeks; order it bespoke and it takes 5–6. Two things are set at order and both change the object substantially. The first is the division: the blue can be held low as here, brought up to take the stem and half the wing, or dropped almost out so the piece reads clear with a blue foot. The second is handing. The wing sweeps right on this one and is made sweeping left, which matters when it is going into a corner or at one end of a long surface, and it should be chosen from the room rather than left open. On colour: this blue is standard, and a green, an amber and a smoke grey are all made, with the white streaking optional. Depth can be increased for a freestanding position, which thickens the wing and makes it read less like a blade. It travels standing with the wing boxed out on both faces, since that is the vulnerable part, and one person can carry it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A wing of clear resin swept off a blue stem belongs with our abstract sculptures; a diagonal split between blue and colourless joins it to our organic sculptures, and blue worked wet into clear resin suits our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
