Black Top Clear Teardrop Acrylic Side Table - 55cm
Black Top Clear Teardrop Acrylic Side Table - 55cm $3,57700
Description

A round top of solid black timber with a slightly domed edge sits on a turned black neck, and the neck runs down into a clear acrylic teardrop that reaches the floor without a foot. The teardrop is at its widest low down, so the piece looks heavier at the bottom than the top and stands without any spread at all.

A Turned Neck Between Two Materials

The timber top is turned and its edge domed, then ebonised so the grain closes and the surface goes to a flat black. The teardrop is cast as one solid body and polished from a coarse grade to a mirror, and there is no foot on it: the curve itself is the bearing, so it has to be ground true at the point of contact or the table rocks. The neck is turned to fit both and is the only part made to a measurement rather than to a form. Because the teardrop swells low down, the whole weight comes over one small area of the floor rather than being spread across a base.

At 55cm it sits by a bed or an armchair, its black top a dark surface over a clear body, which is the whole effect. The teardrop reaches the floor without spreading, so its footprint is barely wider than a fist and a soft floor will not hold it level. It is easily moved with one hand round the neck.

The Teardrop, the Neck, and Placing It

Our workshops take 3–4 weeks over a standard piece and 5–6 over a bespoke commission. Here it is the turned neck that governs. You settle three things. The top can be run in any timber or in the same acrylic as the body, and the ebonising can be left off for a natural finish. Both the top span and the teardrop height are yours to set. The group is made as one so that the turn of the neck reads the same on each piece. The timber top and the teardrop foot are boxed separately, and the neck between them is the part packed most heavily. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A black timber disc on a clear acrylic teardrop gives our art furniture a table to stand by a bed or an armchair; the drop suits our organic sculptures, the clear body our acrylic sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
