Rather than being squared into a block, this stump keeps its own outline. Its outer form follows the stump's own waisted profile, narrowing in the middle and flaring at the base, and the whole surface is cut into deep vertical flutes in a near-black bark. The top is a flat level disc of pale end grain.
The outline is the stump's own, so the piece is wider at the foot than at the waist and no two verticals are parallel. The flutes are cut deep enough to throw a hard shadow, and they follow the swell and hollow of the profile rather than running straight, which is what makes the surface read as carved rather than machined. The bark is near-black with a warm brown showing in the cut faces of the flutes. The top is the one flat plane on the piece, taken level so it can be used, and the pale end grain against the black is the only strong contrast on it.
At 45cm high this works as a stool or a side table beside a chair, in a hall, or in a bathroom, and the flat top is broad enough for a tray or a folded towel. Because the form is irregular it looks different from every angle and has no back, so it earns a position out in a room. It suits rough plaster, stone and unfinished timber, and it sits comfortably in a room with no other straight-edged object in it. It is heavy and stays where it is put. Indoor use only.
As standard the build runs 3–4 weeks, and as a bespoke commission 5–6. This block is tagged as a wabi-sabi piece and the phrase earns its place, so it is worth saying what it means in practice rather than leaving it as a mood. The profile is not corrected: where the stump was uneven the piece is uneven, and the base is not turned flat but left as the tree left it, which is why it may want a felt pad on a hard floor. The flutes are cut by hand and they vary in width and depth. The end grain has its own checks and radial splits and they are not filled. None of that is a fault to be reported; it is what the piece is. If a regular, corrected form is wanted, a squared block is the answer instead. Flute depth is specified coarser or finer at order and other heights are made from suitable stumps as they come. The waist is the natural hold on this one, which is the practical advantage of a profiled block over a square one. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
The stump form sits in our organic sculptures, the black casting belongs with our resin sculptures, and the piece goes with our sculptures.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
