This block's four faces are dished inward rather than flat, with the corners drawn into soft rounded columns of clear resin. Inside it the log shows only near-black bark, no timber face at all, and the top carries a pale end grain disc. The dished faces and rounded corners make the resin read as a lens on each side.
The block is shaped rather than squared: each of the four faces curves gently inward and the corners swell out into rounded verticals, so there is no straight edge anywhere on its sides. Against that soft outer form the log is entirely bark, near-black and coarsely broken, so a hard dark mass sits within a rounded clear shell. The corners are the brightest part of the block and the middle of each face the darkest, so the whole thing reads as four bright pillars around a dark mass. The top is the only flat plane, taken level, with the pale end grain as the single light incident on the piece. At the corners the resin is clear enough to show the edge of the bark from either side.
At 41cm the top sits at the height of a low chair's arm, and it will hold a candle, a dish or a few books. The rounded corners make it a safe block in a passing place, since there is no sharp arris to catch a hip or a shin, which is worth something in a narrow hall. The black bark wants a pale wall behind it. It suits plaster, stone and pale timber. It is heavy for its footprint and stays where it is set down. Indoor use only.
Whether it is standard or bespoke sets the build: 3–4 weeks or 5–6. The base of this block follows the same shaped outline as the sides, so it meets the floor on four rounded corners rather than on a continuous flat edge, and that leaves it sensitive to an uneven floor. On boards that have moved it will find three of its four corners and rock slightly; a felt pad under each corner settles it and is invisible. On carpet it wants a hard pad under it if anything is going on top. The dished faces are polished and will show a fingermark more readily than a flat face does, because the curve gathers the reflection. Face depth is specified shallower or deeper at order, a shallower dish reading closer to a plain block, and the height can be changed without touching the plan. The rounded corners are the grip, and they are the reason this block goes through a doorway without trouble. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Shaped faces and swelling clear corners put this block among our abstract sculptures; its bark-only log answers to our organic sculptures, and the black-and-clear casting to our resin sculptures.

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
