Black & Amber Bossed Resin Vase - 42cm with glossy black body, rounded bosses on the shoulders, and an amber stripe from neck to foot, shown on a plain white background.
Black & Amber Bossed Resin Vase - 42cm $2,36200
Description

A vase waisted at the foot and swelling to a broad shoulder. Rounded bosses stand proud of the body across the shoulders and down one side, and a single amber stripe runs from the neck to the foot through a body that is otherwise near-black. The foot is cast with the body and nothing else comes with it.

Every Boss Sits on Its Own Tangent

Each boss is a dome applied to a curve, and no two of them sit on the same curve. A dome meeting a shoulder that falls away steeply has to be cut back on one side to sit flat; the same dome on the flat of the belly does not. Get it wrong and the boss appears to be stuck on, which is exactly what it is, and the piece looks assembled rather than made. So each one is drawn against the tangent at the point it lands, with the junction faired into the body all the way round. There are more than forty of them and the fairing is most of the work on this vase.

At 42cm it suits a console, a hall table or a hearth, and it is tall enough to hold its own beside a chair. The bosses need light from one side and slightly above to cast the small shadows that separate them from the body; flat light turns them into a pattern. Set the amber stripe toward the approach, since it is the one thing on the piece that changes as the light moves and it is invisible from behind.

The Bosses, the Stripe, and Delivery

Plan for 3–4 weeks on a standard piece and 5–6 weeks on a bespoke commission. The bosses are drawn broader or spaced further apart, the stripe is widened or run around the body rather than down it, and the black is taken to a deep green. The vase can also be cast with no bosses at all, as a plain vessel of the same profile. It is also cast at other heights. It travels in one box in a shaped bed with the shoulder supported and every boss clear of the packing, and one person lifts it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A vessel carrying its own bosses is organic sculpture; the dark body is resin sculpture; and one amber stripe needs indoor sculpture light.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
