Antiqued Gold Leaf Folded Curl Resin Sculpture, 120cm, curled resin form with aged gold leaf interior and clear lip on a black marble column, plain white background.
Antiqued Gold Leaf Folded Curl Resin Sculpture - 120cm $3,12000
Description

A curl of clear resin that rolls over on itself into a deep, open hood, the far end rising into a clear lip that faces it across the opening. Antiqued gold leaf lines the inside of the hood and shows through its glassy outer wall, broken all over with dark patches so that it reads as old gilding rather than new, while the lip is left clear. A tall black marble column is included and arrives as a separate piece.

Why the Leaf Is Antiqued and the Lip Left Clear

Antiquing gold leaf is what stops it reading as paint. Bright leaf laid over a curved body returns one hard highlight and nothing else, so the form disappears into a single flare. Broken with dark patches, the leaf holds a different tone at every point of the hood, and the curl can be read as a shape rather than as a bright object. The leaf is kept to the inside of the hood and seen through the clear outer wall, and the lip at the far end is left without it, so the gold reads as something held within the curl, with a clear edge to stop at. The consequence is that the piece works under one light source, which a fully bright gilding does not: that needs a whole room reflected in it to have any modelling at all.

At 120cm the gilded hood is met between waist and chest height, so this is floor work, and it needs an unpatterned wall, since a gilded surface returns whatever is around it and a papered wall ends up inside the piece. One directional light does more than an even wash. The column is square at the foot and should stand on an even floor with nothing soft under it. Gilding returns the room instead of a hue, so what the curl looks like on any given day is decided by the walls it is standing between rather than by the casting.

The Gilding, the Column, and Delivery

In the workshop a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. The leaf is laid bright without the antiquing, the clear lip is given a pale tint, and the column is cut in white marble. Column height is specified at the order, and the curl is cast to sit in proportion to it. Laid bright, the leaf makes a far louder object, and it suits a room with little else in it that shines. A white stone column lifts the whole arrangement where the black is too heavy. Curl and column ship in two crates, and the curl is always carried by its foot, never by the hood or the clear lip. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Folded back on itself, the curl is organic sculpture; gilding over a cast body is resin sculpture; and leaf laid this thin repays the attention indoor sculpture gets.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
