Amethyst Open-Armed Torso Cast Resin Sculpture, 54cm, in pale purple with jagged textured surface, mounted on a black rectangular base against a plain white background.
Amethyst Open-Armed Torso Cast Resin Sculpture - 54cm $2,90200
Description

Both arms on this cast resin torso sculpture are thrown out and away from the body, one to each side, and neither of them turns back. The result is a form that occupies a width rather than a height: seen from the front it spans well past the hips, and seen from the side it almost disappears. The material is a pale amethyst violet and the planes across the chest are broad and flat. A shallow slab of black marble sits under it.

Two Reaches, Neither of Them Supported

Two reaches leaving one body in opposite directions is the awkward case, because each of them ends in mid air and there is nothing to check it against except the other one. They are not symmetrical, so the usual trick of working one and copying it is no help; instead the angles are set against the chest and then read from four positions round the piece, and a reach that looks right from the front and wrong from above is brought back. The ends themselves are the last thing done. Each is closed with a flat cut rather than tapered to a point, since a violet edge brought to a fine section goes pale and the arm appears to fade out. The marble is dressed level and the torso pinned down onto it.

A form this wide wants a run of clear surface rather than a niche, and it is at its worst in a corner, where one arm goes into the wall and the span is lost. A long console, a broad chest or the middle of a sideboard suits it. Set it so that both arms are seen at once, which means approaching it face on rather than obliquely, and keep other objects off the surface either side of it. A pale wall behind gives the violet somewhere to read against.

Reach Angle, Colour and Bringing It In

Expect 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks where the commission is bespoke. Reach angle is set at order, from this open span to something closer to the body, and either arm can be brought back on its own for an asymmetric version. Tint depth runs from this pale violet to a deep aubergine, with amber, green and grey made the same way. The base is offered in this stone, in a white marble, or in slate, and can be left off altogether. Sizes are cut to order. Where several are ordered together they are poured from the same mixes so the tints agree. Base and figure travel apart in one crate and go together by hand, each a one-person carry. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A torso flinging its arms out wide belongs with our classic sculptures; two unsupported reaches lead to our abstract sculptures, and pale violet resin joins our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
