A petal shell chair that turns on a column of matt black steel, set into a broad disc foot. The shell is a single open form with five lobes, two of them drawn out into points at the arms. Its material is a warm amber, and through it runs a darker brown that gathers along the rim and thins to a smoke in the middle of the back. The edges read a deep brown and the colour pales across the open face.
The colour is the whole subject of this one, and it is not a flat wash. A darker brown runs through the amber in ribbons: broad slow curves across the seat, tight hooks inside the lobes, and a dense line following the rolled rim all the way round. The same brown reads pale gold in the middle of the back and near black at the lip, so the rim draws itself as a line from every angle. No two shells carry quite the same lobe profile. Beneath it the steel is a flat black with no sheen, chosen so that nothing competes with the shell.
At 75cm to the rim with the shell at seat height, this works as a desk chair, a dressing table chair, or a single occasional chair in a bay or a wide landing. It turns freely on the column. Give it a plain wall or a window rather than a patterned background, since the shell will take whatever is behind it and hold it in the amber. Light from behind is the position that shows the ribboning; light from in front flattens it to a warm brown. The disc foot needs a hard floor or a firm rug to sit level. Indoors only.
Count on the difference between standard and bespoke: 3–4 weeks or 5–6. The shell sets the time rather than the base, since the colour work is done by hand and cannot be corrected once the shell is finished. Two things are open at order. The colour pair, which can be this brown through amber, a grey through clear, or a green through blue; the paler the contrast the more the lobe form reads and the less the movement does. And the base, which can be this matt black column and disc, a polished steel column, or a brass one, with or without a gas lift. The shell is made to whatever size the room needs, and the column to whatever height. Shell and base travel apart, in two crates, and the base bolts up to the shell with four fixings and the hex key included. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Brown drawn through amber puts this swivel chair with our art furniture; its matt black steel stand relates it to our metal sculptures, and its five-lobed shell to our organic sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
