Amber Shell Cast Resin Armchair - 81cm
Amber Shell Cast Resin Armchair - 81cm $4,04700
Description

This armchair is cast in a translucent amber resin. Back, seat and both arms are one continuous cast shell. The back rises straight and then rolls forward at the top edge, the arms run out from it as flat wings that turn down at the front, and the seat dishes gently between them. Four legs run from the corners, square at the top and rounded by the time they reach the floor. The resin is translucent throughout, so the shell is darker where two surfaces overlap at the arm joins and lighter across the open span of the back.

One Shell From Back to Arms

The shell is the whole argument of the chair. Back, arms and seat read as one continuous surface with no join anywhere on it, and the eye can follow the back up, forward along an arm and down to the seat without meeting an edge. The tone follows the geometry: the flat span of the back is the palest part of the chair, the arm junctions are the darkest, and the gradient between them is smooth. Colour sits in the material rather than on it, so an edge shows the same tint as a face and there is nothing to wear off. The legs leave the seat square in section and arrive at the floor round, the change happening along their length rather than at a shoulder, which is why they look drawn rather than attached.

At 81cm this is a full armchair rather than an occasional seat, and it needs the room an armchair needs. The shell is translucent, so what stands behind it will be visible through the back; a plain wall serves it better than a patterned one. The amber is quiet enough to sit at a table, and the arms are low enough to run under a standard dining table if it is being used that way. The seat is hard, which suits a dining or desk position better than a long evening. Indoors only.

The Tint, the Seat Height and a Matched Set

Ordinarily a standard piece needs 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. The amber can be deepened or taken paler, or the shell cast in a tint you specify, and the leg length is adjusted so the seat sits at a height you name. The legs can also be cast clear while the shell keeps its colour. Overall width is settled at order. Where two or more are wanted, the tint is held the same across the group. It travels with the two arm tips packed clear, and two people can place it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

One amber shell from back to arms makes this chair part of our art furniture; work in this idiom is collected in our contemporary and modern sculptures, and seating made for indoor rooms in our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
