A Buddha seated with the legs folded, this cast resin sculpture rests both hands in the lap. The robe passes over one shoulder and falls in broad folds across the chest, then spreads over the knees and pools in front of them. The head is held level with the eyes lowered, the hair cut in tight curls, and the crown rises above it. The whole figure is a translucent amber, deepest through the folded legs where the material is thickest and lightest across the chest.
A translucent figure carries its colour quite differently from an opaque one, and that changes where the work goes. The folds of the robe are the thing that gives the piece its form, and in a clear amber a fold is read as a change in the depth of colour rather than as a shadow, so each is cut deeper than it would be in an opaque material and the edge is left slightly soft so the colour turns rather than steps. The face is the other passage and it is worked the opposite way: it is the shallowest modelling on the whole figure, because at this scale the eye reads a translucent face as a mass rather than as features, and cutting it deeper makes it stern.
Seated at a hundred and fourteen, the head comes to about the chest of a standing adult, and the figure belongs on the floor, on a low plinth or on a broad step, somewhere with quiet around it rather than in a passage. You meet it from the front, looking slightly down. Amber wants light coming through it, so a window to one side or a lamp set low beside it fills the whole figure; an overhead light lands on the shoulders and leaves the legs dark.
Our workshops take 3–4 weeks over a standard piece and 5–6 over a bespoke commission. Colour is settled at order in this amber, in a green, in a smoke or in a colourless body, or as a solid opaque figure where the amber is not wanted. The hands are made in this resting position or with the right hand raised, and a lotus base is available under the figure. Sizes run from a table figure up to something well above head height. It arrives in one fitted crate seated as it sits, with the crown and the knees supported. Lift it under the fall of the robe rather than at the shoulders. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A seated Buddha with hands resting in the lap belongs with our figurative sculptures; a still figure for a calm room leads to our indoor sculptures, and amber that deepens through the lap joins our resin sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
