Round and deep in the body, this cast resin goldfish sculpture is covered in overlapping scales everywhere that is not fin. Above and behind it the dorsal, the tail and the paired belly fins are all opened out to their full extent, thin and wavy-edged. The colour begins as a deep amber at the head and the hood and darkens to a smoke grey across the belly, while the fins stay almost colourless through the middle and are edged in amber that deepens to orange at the tips of the tail. It is made to hang.
Cutting scales over a sphere is not the same job as cutting them over a flank. The body swells in two directions at once, so a row that is even along the back arrives too wide at the belly and too narrow at the shoulder unless every row is set out again as the curve changes. There are several hundred of them and each one is cut with the same tool at the same depth, because a shallow scale in the middle of a field of deep ones reads as a blemish rather than a variation. The hood is the other exacting passage: it is a mass of small raised lobes with no rows at all, so it is worked freehand and then compared against the scales for depth, which is the only way the two can be made to sit together.
At 30cm it rewards being met at close range, where the scales, which are what the work is, can be studied one by one. It reads best from the side, where the fins separate and the grade runs the whole length. Light coming across it rather than down on it fills every scale with its own shadow; a flat overhead light turns the field into a texture. Hung at eye level against a pale wall, it shows the orange edges of its fins at their brightest.
Standard pieces take 3–4 weeks and bespoke commissions 5–6. Fin spread is set at order and can be brought closer to the body for a quieter fish. The grade runs in this amber, in a red, in a green or in a single flat colour, and a colourless version with no grade at all is made. Scale depth is open, from this deep cut to a shallow relief. A second fish in a mirrored attitude is made where a pair is wanted, and any size is cut to order. Delivery is a sleeved box with the fins supported and nothing to assemble; one hand carries it, and it should be lifted at the body and not by a fin. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A fantail goldfish with every fin spread belongs with our animal sculptures; wavy fins edged in orange lead to our organic sculptures, and amber running into smoke joins our resin sculptures.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
