Amber Fan-Vaned Spiral Resin Sculpture - 61cm
Amber Fan-Vaned Spiral Resin Sculpture - 61cm $2,30100
Description

A cast resin sculpture whose three fans rise from a single foot and twist round one another, the broadest sweeping out to the side as a wide wing, the second climbing behind it to a tall rolled rim and the third curling over at the top, so no two viewpoints give the same object and none of them gives a symmetrical one. Each fan is a sheet worked in fine radiating vanes, like the ribs of a fan opened out, and on the fan that climbs behind they cross into a net. The amber is deepest at the foot and along that rolled rim, thinning through honey to clear where the wing runs out to its point. It stands on a black marble base.

Three Vaned Fans About One Foot

Three fans about one foot is a harder proposition than three fans side by side, because each has to clear the others through the whole of the turn. As each rises it also rotates, so the gaps between them open and close at every height and the outline changes with every step taken round it. The vanes are the other slow passage: they radiate across each sheet, so their spacing widens towards every edge and no two are the same length, and on the fan climbing behind the wing they cross into a close net of small scales. The amber is graded with them, gathered deep in the foot and paling out towards the point of the wing.

At 61cm overall, base included, it belongs on a console or a sideboard, not the floor, and it should be given room to be walked around: there is no front to it, and any single view is the least interesting thing about it. Light from one side rakes across the vanes and lifts them into rows of separate highlights, while light from directly ahead washes them flat and leaves only the amber. Amber argues with a cool grey scheme and reads as orange in it, so it belongs near warm timber or against a dark wall where the deep foot goes almost black.

Amber, Vanes and Bringing It In

Allow 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. Colour and surface are specified at order: this amber grading, another tint graded the same way, a clear body with no tint, or one solid colour throughout. The vanes can be made coarser or finer, or dropped for a smooth polished surface, which is a different object at the same size. How far each fan turns can be drawn to suit the room it is made for. Marble comes in this black, a white or a grey, and the base can be widened where the piece stands in traffic. Take its weight under the marble and at the foot, never on the rim of a fan or the point of the wing. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Nothing in it runs straight, and its three amber fans place it with our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our contemporary and modern sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
