Amber Double Scoop Cut Sphere on Steel Resin Sculpture - 54cm, dark amber swirled form with golden cut interior on a mirror-polished steel disc, white background.
Amber Double Scoop Cut Sphere on Steel Resin Sculpture - 54cm $2,69700
Description

A ball of amber, translucent and deep, opened into two scoops that wind past one another. The outer skin is left dark and the cut faces are polished to a golden interior, so the ball is one colour from outside and another from within. It is held on a mirror-polished stainless steel disc, which comes with it.

A Mirror Under a Transparent Object

Putting a mirror under a transparent object does something a stone base never can: it returns the light that has already passed through the body straight back up into it. The scoops are lit twice as a result, once from above and once from beneath, and the second lighting arrives from an angle nothing in the room provides. It is also why the disc is small. A wide mirror would show the whole underside of the sphere as a second object sitting beneath it, which is a trick rather than an effect; at the size used the disc returns light and shows almost no reflection, so what you see is the amber getting brighter from below for no visible reason.

It reads from every side, so it wants a surface reached from more than one direction: an island, a low central table, a console in an open run. At 54cm it wants the surround of its table left empty, because the steel disc picks up anything standing close. Of everything here this is the piece that wants one strong light, since the disc has to have something to return. A dim corner takes the whole argument away and leaves a dark ball.

The Disc, the Amber, and Delivery

Making a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks, and making a bespoke one 5–6. The scoops are cut deeper or shallower, the amber is lightened toward honey, and the disc is made wider or in a brushed finish. The design can be made at another diameter to order, or set on black marble instead of steel, which gives a quieter object. A frosted body is also offered and closes the piece up entirely. One crate takes both, the ball seated on its outer curve and the steel laid flat under a facing, and it takes two to move. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

The polished disc beneath is stainless steel sculpture; the turning form above it is organic sculpture; and amber this deep is indoor sculpture.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
