Amber Crystalline Wave Curl Resin Sculpture (66cm) by Giant Sculptures, a swirling wave form curling into a ring with flame-like crests, clear to amber tones, on a black rectangular base against a plain white background.
Amber Crystalline Wave Curl Resin Sculpture - 66cm $2,03800
Description

The surface of this cast resin sculpture is left rough and crystalline where it curls, so amber light scatters instead of reflecting. The form underneath is a wave that rolls round into a full ring and turns inward on itself in a spiral tongue, with flame-like crests standing up above the ring and a spray of fingers thrown off to one side. The amber is deepest at the foot, where it runs almost to orange, pales to gold through the ring and clears at the highest points. Close to, it is granular enough to show individual facets; from a few paces it reads as amber glass that has been through something.

A Rough Surface Instead of a Polished One

This piece is judged on its skin as much as on its form, and that changes which faults matter. A polished piece can carry a slightly awkward curve, because the reflections travelling across it hold the eye instead; a crystalline one has no reflections, so the form is read plainly and any hesitation in the roll of the ring or the turn of the spiral shows. It also means the roughness has to be the same grade over the whole object, including the inside of the ring and the spiral where a hand cannot easily go. A patch that is finer than the rest reads as a wet mark on a dry surface, and once the eye has found it, it cannot stop finding it again.

It needs a strong single light to scatter, and it goes flat in an evenly lit room. Soft general lighting, which flatters a polished form, gives this one nothing to work with and it becomes a matt amber shape. One lamp, a spot, or direct sun from a window sets the whole surface alight instead. At 66cm with its base it sits happily on a writing desk or a sideboard, and the position that matters is the one nearest a single light rather than the one with the most room. A dark ground behind it helps the scatter read.

Even Roughness All Over, and Delivery

Give it 3–4 weeks as a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks as a bespoke commission. The crests above the ring can be drawn up higher or kept close to it, and the spray at the side made fuller or finer. The same curl is made polished, and the amber runs to a clear or a smoke grey. The scale is drawn to order, the grade of the surface can be coarser or finer than this one, and the marble base comes in this black or a pale stone. It is crated on its own with the curl faced and the base boxed beneath it, and the two go together on site by levelling the base and lowering the curl onto it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A surface left crystalline rather than polished is organic sculpture scattering its own light, resin sculpture underneath, and indoor sculpture where a single strong lamp can do the work.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
