Amber Combed Spiral Wound Form Resin Sculpture, 34cm, with one lobe combed into a grid pattern and the other clear, resting on its curved base against a plain white background.
Amber Combed Spiral Wound Form Resin Sculpture - 34cm $2,29400
Description

An amber spiral, one lobe combed into a grid and the rest left clear. The clear half shows the room behind it displaced by the curvature of the body, and the combed lobe breaks the same view into a field of small cells, so each half of the piece explains what the other is doing. It settles on the curve of its own shell and is supplied without a stand.

One Lobe Combed, the Rest Left Alone

Texturing part of a transparent body and not the rest is a way of giving the eye two things to compare, and it only works if the division is obvious. Combed over the whole shell the grid would cancel itself out and the piece would read as frosted; confined to one lobe, with clear polished material beside it, each half explains the other. The clear part shows what is behind the piece, displaced by the curvature; the combed part breaks that into a field of small cells and hands back a texture instead. Which lobe gets the grid is the second decision, and it is the outer one, because the spiral is read from the outside in. Putting the texture at the end of the movement rather than the beginning gives the eye somewhere to arrive, and a wound form with no destination is just a curve.

At 34cm it sits on a table, a desk or a shelf and is read close. It settles on its own curve, so it will sit on any flat surface, though it wants one that will not let it rock. The grid is the part worth lighting: a lamp to one side gives each cell of the combed lobe its own value, while an overhead light flattens the whole field into a single grey patch and the contrast with the clear lobe disappears.

The Grid, the Amber, and Delivery

Build times separate standard from bespoke: 3–4 weeks against 5–6. The combed lobe is drawn over more of the shell, the amber is lifted, and the spiral is wound tighter. The mesh is cut at other scales and drawn over more of the body, which changes the balance the piece depends on. A tint through the body is offered and fights the design, since colour in the casting competes with the displacement the clear lobe is there to show. It is crated alone, seated on its broadest curve with the point packed clear, since the wound end is the thinnest section and would take a knock first. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A spiral wound to a closed centre belongs with our organic sculptures; amber left clear beside a combed lobe leads to our resin sculptures, and a piece to read close on a desk joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
