A standing disc, slim from front to back, divided down a ragged vertical seam. One half is smooth translucent amber and the other is opaque violet combed into fine parallel lines from edge to centre. The seam wanders rather than running straight, and the disc is supplied on its own with nothing to raise it.
Two finishes on one face is easy; two finishes that read as two MATERIALS is not, and the whole of this piece is the second problem. The amber half transmits, so it has depth and its colour changes with the light behind it. The violet half is combed, which means it scatters everything and holds one value whatever is behind it. Set those side by side across a straight line and the eye reads a painted join. The seam is therefore drawn to wander, stepping in and out a little along its length, because a boundary between two real materials is never a ruled line. That single decision is what makes the object work.
At 36cm its place is a mantel, a bookshelf or a desk rather than anywhere it has to fill. The two halves want different things from the light and cannot both be satisfied, so choose: light from behind brings the amber up and leaves the violet flat, and light raking across the front brings the combing up and closes the amber. A position with some of each through the day is the honest answer, which usually means near a window and not facing one.
Most pieces are standard and take 3–4 weeks; a bespoke commission takes 5–6. The seam is drawn straighter or made more broken, the comb is cut coarser, and either half is taken to another colour. A version in which both halves are combed is made and is a quieter, more uniform object, since the contrast is what this one is for. The disc is also cast at other diameters. It is sent in one flat case faced on both sides, standing on its edge in the packing as it stands in the room, and one person lifts it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
One disc answering itself across a seam is organic sculpture; the amber half is resin sculpture; and combed violet reads under indoor sculpture light.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
