A stump stool cast in resin. The profile is not round but lobed, with broad soft flutes running the full height so the outline waves in and out the way a trunk does under its bark. The flanks carry vertical bands of amber and near-black, translucent where the amber runs and solid where the black does. The top is a pale sawn face, ringed and slightly dished, set a little below the rim.
The colour is the whole object here, and it is arranged the way a split log is: bands running the height rather than rings running round it. Where the amber falls it is genuinely translucent, so the flute holding it lights through and the band reads as a warm channel of material; where the black falls it stops the light dead and reads as a solid mass. The two alternate round the circumference at irregular widths, some a hand across and some barely a finger, so no two views of the stool are alike. Over all of it the surface is polished to a full gloss, which pulls a bright line down the crest of every flute and leaves the hollows between them dark. The sawn top is the one quiet part: pale, matt by comparison, and marked only by its own rings.
At 45cm this is seat height, so it works as a stool at a low table, as a side table beside a chair, or as a plant stand in a hall. The footprint is small, but the stool's weight keeps it steady once it is set down. The banding is what to place for: a floor lamp or a window to one side lights the amber channels through and makes the black bands read as the gaps between them, where flat overhead light flattens the whole circumference to one dark cylinder. On a pale floor the amber warms the boards around it. Indoor use only.
Every standard piece is made in 3–4 weeks, and every bespoke commission in 5–6. What gets specified is the route the colour takes: amber against black as here, a single amber throughout, which is much the warmer and quieter object, or the near-black version in which only thin clear channels break the mass. The banding can also be run narrow and frequent for something closer to a tiger's eye, or wide and few for two or three broad statements round the stool. Other heights are built to order, and the diameter follows the height so the proportion holds. The sawn top can be left dished as here or brought flat if the stool is to be used as a surface more than a seat. Two or three can be made together at different heights, cast at the same time so the bands relate. It travels upright in one crate and is a two-person lift. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
This stool belongs with our functional sculpture and art furniture, its amber and black pour with our resin sculptures, and its cast form among our organic sculptures.

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
