About Our Angel Statues
The angel is the one figure in Western sculpture that carries meaning without needing explanation. It reads as protection, remembrance and grace at once, which is why it has stood in gardens, chapels and cemeteries for six hundred years and why it is still the most requested memorial subject we make.
Seven in ten pieces here are carved in real quarried marble, the material the tradition is built on, with the remainder cast in bronze. Marble is the reason the drapery and the feathering work: it holds an edge fine enough for individual pinions and lets light travel into the surface so the stone reads as cloth rather than rock. Every piece is carved or cast by hand, so no two are identical.
The range covers the full tradition. Standing and kneeling angels, weeping and mourning figures, guardians with drawn swords, angels in prayer, winged children and cherubs, and angels set within fountains and water features. Browse the smaller winged figures in marble sculptures and statues and the devotional subjects in religious statues.
Almost the whole collection is made for outdoor display, and nearly two thirds stand over 160cm, which is the scale the subject wants: an angel needs height to read as watching over something rather than decorating it. Marble weathers gently outdoors, softening in tone over the years. See the wider outdoor range in garden statues and the largest pieces in life size and large statues.
Every angel statue we make is carved or cast to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch if you are commissioning a memorial, and we will guide you through scale, inscription and siting.
FAQs
What are the angel statues made from?
Around seven in ten are carved from real quarried marble and the rest are cast bronze. Both are permanent outdoor materials. We do not use reconstituted stone or marble-effect resin anywhere in this collection.
Are they suitable for a grave or memorial?
Yes, and it is the most common reason people buy them. Marble and bronze are both standard memorial materials and will stand for generations. Check with the cemetery or churchyard first, as many have rules on height, material and inscription.
Can an angel statue be personalised?
Yes. We can carve inscriptions, adjust the scale, alter the pose or the base, and take commissions from a photograph or a drawing. For memorial work we will talk you through the wording before anything is cut.
How tall should an angel statue be?
Nearly two thirds of this collection stands over 160cm, which is the scale at which the figure reads as watching over a space rather than decorating it. Smaller pieces from 50cm suit a niche, a memorial plot or a courtyard where the viewer stands close.
Will marble discolour outdoors?
It will soften in tone over the years and may take a light patina, particularly under trees. That is normal weathering rather than damage. Clean water and a soft brush is all that is needed; never use acidic or abrasive cleaners.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every piece is carved or cast by hand to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
