Yellow Birdcage with Black Bird Hanging Sculpture - 58cm
Yellow Birdcage with Black Bird Hanging Sculpture - 58cm $3,37500
Description

A birdcage in clear yellow, its dome shaped as one tinted shell with bars drawn as fine amber lines that run from the rounded crown to the foot. Inside, a black bird is drawn in two strokes, one sweep for the body rising from the floor of the cage and a second for the head and beak, poised as if about to call. The dome stands in a clear ring at its foot.

A Cage Drawn in Amber Lines on Yellow

A cage that is also a closed shell is a paradox the design leans into. The bars are there, drawn as darker lines in the yellow, yet nothing could pass between them, so the bird is kept and shown at the same time. Its two black strokes are slim enough to read as a drawing rather than a model, which keeps the dome feeling light, and the yellow is even through the whole shell, so from any side the bird is seen through the same wash of colour. The clear ring gives the shell a crisp edge to finish on.

Hung by a window or against a white wall, the dome turns the light it meets a warm yellow and the black bird sits sharp inside it. It suits a reading corner, a tall hall or the well of a stair, and it hangs happily among other cages at different heights. Morning light gives the yellow its cleanest tone.

Retinting the Dome and Redrawing the Bird

Making a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks, and making a bespoke one 5–6. The dome can be tinted another colour, from lemon to deep gold, and the bird drawn in white or gold instead of black, or posed with its head turned back over its shoulder. The bars can be drawn closer together or left out for a plain shell. It travels in a carton of fitted foam with the dome cushioned all round, and it is supplied ready to hang. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A yellow cage with a bird kept inside belongs with our bird sculptures; a dome drawn in amber lines suits our contemporary and modern sculptures, and a hanging piece for a reading corner joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
