Yellow & Red Stepped Shoulder Gem Acrylic Sculpture - 50cm, faceted acrylic form with yellow upper planes and orange, pink-red facets below, deep magenta core, on a plain white background.
Yellow & Red Stepped Shoulder Gem Acrylic Sculpture - 50cm $2,57700
Description

A faceted acrylic sculpture whose outline steps back about two-thirds of the way up, so the mass above the step sits back from the mass below it. The planes are large. Yellow and lime fill the upper part, the two broad planes below the step return orange and a pinkish red, and a deep magenta core shows through the middle of the piece where the section runs deep. Towards the foot the colour clears to a pale cyan.

A Step at the Shoulder, and Two Silhouettes

A step at the shoulder gives the piece two silhouettes, one above the step and one below, and both of them have to work. That sounds obvious and it is the whole difficulty: a single outline can be adjusted anywhere along its length to improve the whole, whereas two outlines meeting at a step are fixed relative to each other at that step, so an improvement to the upper one throws the one beneath it out of proportion. The two are therefore drawn together and the step is placed last, at the height where both readings hold - which is rarely the middle. The step is also where the film changes hue, and that is not decoration either: the planes above and below it face at different angles by design, so the colour break falls exactly on the line the outline breaks on.

Fifty centimetres wants a surface at or just under eye level, so that both silhouettes are in view at once - a console, a low cabinet, a broad shelf. Set any higher, the upper mass hides the step and the piece reads as an ordinary block. Side light is what shows the step: it catches the edge where the yellow above meets the orange and red below, which is the clearest evidence the outline breaks. Frontal light flattens the two into one plane and the step disappears.

Drawing It Twice, and Delivery

Where the piece is standard the build is 3–4 weeks, and where it is bespoke 5–6. Drawing the outline twice paces this build, because the two silhouettes are fixed to each other at the step and neither can be adjusted alone. Where the step falls, how the two outlines run and which film goes on are all settled with the order: the step can sit near the foot, there can be two of them, and the whole thing can be made at hall scale. Yellow and red as here, blue-to-violet, or green-to-cyan - and the planes above the step will carry a different film from those under it where a harder break is wanted. It is stood in place by its broad lower planes and never lifted by the step. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A gem whose outline steps back at the shoulder, lime above the break and orange below it, is shelved among our geometric sculptures, our acrylic sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
