Translucent Red Iconify Standing Sculpture, 70cm, resin figure with hands covering face and lobed ears, on a plain white background.
Translucent Red Iconify Standing Sculpture - 70cm $5,19700
Description

The figure in this standing resin sculpture has its feet together and both hands brought up flat over the face, so nothing of the features shows; each hand carries a cross, and two large lobed ears stand out either side of the head. There is no drapery and nothing worked on the body at all: the hands and the ears are the only detail on the piece, and everything else is a set of smooth swelling volumes running into one another. The resin is a deep translucent red, glossy enough to hold a reflection.

A Covered Face on a Standing Figure

A body with nothing worked on it is finished entirely on its surface, and that is a harder standard than a modelled one because there is nothing for the eye to be distracted by. The body is a series of long curves that have to run into each other without a flat spot, and a flat spot on a glossy surface announces itself as a change in the reflection long before anyone notices the shape is wrong. Each transition is therefore worked with flexible abrasives that follow the curve rather than rigid ones that would cut a facet, and the piece goes through five grades before the final polish. The red is a pigment held in the resin, so the colour is the same at a chipped arris as on a face, and the depth of it is settled against the finished object rather than a card.

At 70cm it is a floor piece in a small room and a table piece in a large one, and it works either way as long as it stands clear of other objects, since a glossy figure picks up whatever is around it. Against a plain pale wall the red reads at its strongest. A single source set high and a little to one side is what it wants, putting one long highlight down the body and keeping the hands and the ears reading as separate volumes. It suits a hall, a stair landing or the corner of a sitting room.

Colour, Finish, Scale and Getting It Into Position

Set aside 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. The red runs from this depth to a paler translucent rose, and amber, green and smoke are made the same way; an opaque finish is offered where a solid colour is wanted. A satin surface is available in place of the gloss and changes the piece considerably. Scale is cut to order, from a table-height figure to a full-height one. It travels in a fitted crate, standing, with the head, the hands and the ears packed clear of the sides, and two people should place it, taking it at the hips rather than by an ear. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A standing figure with hands over its eyes belongs with our Iconify sculptures; deep translucent red leads to our resin sculptures, and a figure for a hall or landing joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
